It's rather a humble dwelling; open except for a really small bedroom and an even smaller bathroom. But, its well built, insulated and isolated. Prime qualities for one of my ilk.
I found this place, sitting on about 13 acres, online back in early 2009. Was just recovering from a bout of throat cancer, and it seemed important to, at my age, have a place to retreat to, as needed. Mind, I have the great good fortune of sharing ownership of a cottage on an island in Georgian Bay, which has its own special and unique qualities. However, as age takes its inevitable toll on human utility, I'm finding it increasingly difficult to tolerate the 5+ hour door-to-door trip. Not to mention hauling stuff into the truck, out of the truck, into the boat, out of the boat.... you get the picture. And finally, I'm way past running the risks and extreme conditions of going out there by snowmobile in the winter.
So here it was, less than a 3 hour drive, accessible all year round, off the grid, and built like a fort. Borders the Skootamatta river on the west side, and Jacques bay road on the north side. The third side (its a rough triangle) runs north from the river to a point about 1800' east on jacques bay road.
more to come...
